fire carl.

"It’s no secret that the Chiefs are an organization burning in flames, and Edwards seems to be getting more and more comfortable letting everyone see the gas, matches and electric fans sitting on Carl Peterson’s desk."

"The way the club is currently managed, a coaching staff filled with Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, Bill Parcells, Bill Walsh, Don Shula and Hank Stram couldn’t lead the Chiefs to .500."

life isn't supposed to be like this.

i was born in 1986.

as i've developed, so has technology. these are unrelated happenings.

and as technology has developed, those of us who live in this world have become more and more exposed to the media.

and as the exposure goes up, our understanding of what this world is really like has also gone up.

so it might seem like a surprise to most that violent crime has actually been decreasing drastically since about 1994.

that isn't what this blog is about though.

this blog is about how even though crime is decreasing, and even though i'm exposed to stories about disaster and terror all the time there are still articles that just absolutely ruin me.

this is one of those stories.

it just infuriates me. first of all, suicide infurates me. second, murder infuriates me. third, what the hell do you have to say to your friends and relatives that would ever want to be read? your reasons? your apologies? your justifications?

in tragic situations i always ask the question "what does God have in mind here?" and typically i can come up with something pretty easily. but then crap like this happens and i can't help have a moment of panic. as if God really doesn't have it all figured out. this also makes me entirely too nervous about what i want to do with my life. it's easy for me to stand by and see the brightside after a while, but is that just because nothing tragic has ever happened to me? what if this was one of my friends/relatives? would i fold and completely lose my faith? i just don't know if i'd manage.

but its not about me. its about the family and friends of this family. its about the teachers and counselors of the sons and about the brothers and sisters and close friends of the family. i pray that somehow they can manage. that Christ show his face even in this dark hour, and their souls are met with joy and happiness on the other side of life. i pray that Heaven awaited them all.

life just makes me weep. it isn't supposed to be like this.

mayo to miami? ha.

article.

apparently o.j. mayo went and worked out for the miami heat (second pick in the draft) before beasley or rose did. the media has gotten so ridiculous that it is trying to portray mayo asthe better pick at #2. i'm sorry. saying rose is better than beasley is one thing - say mayo is better is a completely different ballgame.

miami has the easiest pick in the draft; everyone knows it. all they have to do is take whichever one (beasley or rose) that chicago doesn't take. so therefore, it makes perfect sense that mayo would come try out first. he's the #3 top pick overall and the heat want to be certain they're not missing out on anything. they've already got rose and beas on lock down. the heat will not take oj mayo with their second pick - that would be an even bigger crime than taking rose over beasley. but checking him out never did anyone any harm.

i think rose may go 1. but mayo at 2 is a joke. that'd be cool if it did happen though...and then he dropped even further to 4 - cause i still want beasley to go to the supersonics with KD. that has a 0% chance of happening though. but i can dream.

glow in the dark tour.

kanye west's "glow in the dark" tour started wednesday in seattle. i'm currently jealous of every last individual who found themselves in the KeyArena for the opener. here's the review from the seattle times.

"so now imma be takin' no days off, til my spaceship takes off."
sorry mr. west, but its been officially launched.
should read:
"so imma be spittin' every day, no matter what the lyrics of 'Spaceship' say."

and with that one phrase i have quickly posted my most creative post to date.

pic jacked from kanye's blog.
i don't see kanye being one to object to more publicity.

purpose-driven field.

NEW ORLEANS — Pastor and author Rick Warren has signed a deal to purchase the New Orleans Saints football franchise for $320 million from current owner Tom Benson, and has pledged to pour his time and energy into helping the city and team rebuild.
"This is the start of the Saints' turnaround," a Warren spokesman said. "America is going to see what a purpose-driven team can accomplish."
The Saints have desperately needed a home and a vision since Hurricane Katrina devastated their season. They were keenly disappointed with the NFL's response to their plight.
But Warren took an immediate interest in the team on visits to the damaged city, and he surprised his church in November when several Saints players joined him onstage. The church prayed for the team, which won its next game. Warren took this as confirmation of his plan to buy the franchise.
"I like the guy," says one player who met Warren at a practice in San Antonio. "I was skeptical about a minister owning a team, but he wants to win, just like us."
The centerpiece of Warren's purchase will be Purpose-Driven Field, to be located just north of New Orleans. Stadium construction will create thousands of jobs for the local economy, and will give Warren's ministry a foothold in the South, where he hopes to gain greater influence. During the week, Purpose-Driven Field will host conferences, outreaches and short-term missions groups stopping over on their way to Central America, or helping to rebuild New Orleans. Warren already refers to the New Orleans location as Saddleback South, friends say.
The Saints will now operate differently than most NFL teams. Players will be required to go through the 40 Days of Purpose program. Alcohol will not be served in the stadium, and every attendee will receive a copy of the Purpose-Driven Life. Halftime shows will offer "edgy, cool" evangelism and worship concerts, says a spokesman. Warren intends to be as visible as Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who often walks the sidelines during games.
"We're marching into New Orleans," Warren told partner churches recently to rousing applause.•

i'll be looking forward to the "edgy, cool" worship concerts myself.
hopefully Chris Tomlin and his 3-day GQ scruff will show up.

sexually questionable writing at its finest.

please allow yourself to float into a slightly immature state of mind for this post. thank you.

i came home from campus a few days ago and sat down at my computer screen. i had left my gmail window open and my friend dan had sent me a quote from an mlb.com article on billy butler and the royals. this is the quote:

BOSTON -- Royals manager Buddy Bell was leaning on the batting cage. The sun bathed the greenery of Fenway Park and a breeze stirred through the 70-degree afternoon. A delightful day at the tradition-rich ballpark.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Bell mused.

Bell liked what he was seeing inside the cage, too. Billy Butler, his muscular forearms bulging, was putting wood to maximum use...

that is all. laugh amongst yourselves.

ESPYs - Arthur Ashe Award

so the ESPYs are something i find somewhat interesting and unfair at the same time. kind of like the Grammys - it jsut seems unfair to compare athletes of different sports to one another and say that one is better than the other. typically i watch it so that i can 1) find out what remarkable athletes i missed out on in the past year 2) discover new hilarious athletes that i can become a fan of and 3) check out serena williams's and fine fashion sense.

however. this year i watched for only one reason: lebron james was cohosting.

turns out - he's not very funny when his lines are rehearsed.
plus he's a horrible vocalist.
but wise lebron still knows whats up.

however, i was blown away with this years ESPYs thanks to probably the coolest story/challenge combo i've ever witnessed on tv...perhaps next to invisible children...but really incredible to hear just the same.

The Arthur Ashe Award for Courage was awarded this year to individuals who displayed courage in the name of sports. Trevor Ringland and Dave Cullen are from Northern Ireland. For years their community has been divided - literally - by a street in the middle of the city where riots occur much too frequently. They've grown up in a world of hate and turmoil between Protestants and Catholics both despising the other their beliefs. (i'm going to ignore the obvious religious issue i have with this situation and move on to what i'd actually like to address***).

These two studs have created an organization called "Peace Players". It is a program where kids from BOTH sides of the street can come and play together away from the segregation and hatred. This, they (along with me) believe, may have the potential of slowly but effectively bringing a sense of peace to Northern Ireland in the coming years. The men come from opposite sides of the street and have met with schools, parents, government officials and more time and time again in order to persuade them to allow this organization to stand. They have brought hundreds of kids together and taught them not only about basketball, but also life lessons about love and kindness and equality.

anyway. the 10 minute documentary it showed on it during the ESPYs nearly brought tears to my eyes - but it was not nearly as cool as the challenge issued by Trevor during his acceptance speech. He said thank you and then looked down at all the athletes in the auditorium - the best athletes there are - and told them essentially that they "were role models for all the kids in the world, and as such, they have a responsibility for their actions."

i've been waiting for someone to say that to the athletes of this country for years. granted this is not all athletes - heck, even Ron Artest surprised me this week with his efforts in kenya - but there was a man in the audience at the ESPYs named Terrell Owens who, if he saw and heard the same thing i did, might have felt some slight pangs of guilt. And i'm not only pointing fingers at TO - i'm pointing fingers at Tank Johnson, Dominic Jones, Michael Vick, even my man out of Iowa State Jamaal Tinsley.

and that is just in the last couple of weeks. these things happen on a near-daily basis. and frankly, it pisses me off.

how many kids ever played with a football outside as Jerry Rice and Joe Montana. or played baseball as Nolan Ryan or Ken Griffey Jr. or played basketball as MJ...and then the other kid had to be Pippen or Rodman. I want to be like Mike. it was a freaking advert! granted, no one really wanted to be like Rodman - which is why the dorky kid you were friends with always got stuck with him...unless there was a bully or a kid with a nose ring/pink hair. but even Mike isn't a great role model - but thats besides the point.

the poing is: kids are no different today. they're still kids. they have people they want to be like and the first place most of them turn when they realize their parents are boring is to sports. players have an obligation as role models to lead by example. i feel like many are failing and i'm thrilled that Dave and Trevor addressed it.

anyone can make a difference - even two religiously diverse middle-aged men from a terror-stricken Northern Ireland - and it's an absolute crime that such obvious difference makers can't do the same.

so to the Peace Players in Europe -

praise-alluia to ya.

*** turns out - my brother doubledizz actually has addressed thoughts on this subject on his page - here are his (and many of my) thoughts.

baby girl, how are you?

first of all: read this article.

i think this is absolutely hilarious. first of all, i feel like the dude at the cell phone place did it on purpose, cause if paris hilton shows up in my store i'm going to try and figure out some way to punk her, and i think this dude took a pretty legit route. too bad Barlow didnt send back any ridiculously fake text message responses. cause she had to have had an idea of what was going on when people kept calling her 'Paris' at 2 am. i mean how many bizonkers party animals can be named after foreign cities? let alone Paris? i think if i could choose a foreign city for a name i'd probably pick 'Istanbul' and go by 'Stan'....and maybe i could have a sister called 'Rio de Janeiro' and she could go by 'Jan'....anyway. i feel like she could've said a TON of completely stupid things in response..."sorry. can't talk right now...i'm eating a Colossal Dog*." something like that would have gone over terrific i think.

Paris Hilton would be a terrific person to have this happen to also. you'd get some seriosuly great insight into her life and, at the same time, you'd get to mess around with the life of a hot shot like her behind her back. i started thinking about what celebrity i'd want to be mistaken for...and i came up with teh following Top 3:

1) barry bonds. i could then throw down some seriously incriminating text messages. things like "yeah. i took 'roids. so what. they'll never find out." or "i dont mind if i have an astrisk...it'll just bring more attention to my name on all the leaderboards." or "i eat babies." but i have a feeling that none of these would get the guy chucked out of baseball...i'd be relying on someone on the other end being active and telling someone of some importance that barry had said something to him - unless it WAS someone important texting him. like Bud Selig. Goodbye career. yeah right. they'd find out it was me.

2) justin timberlake. no real reason...i think i'd just like to be mistaken for him in some way or form.

3) mandy moore. duh. cause then there would be the slim chance to meet her and laugh with her about what a terrific misunderstanding it was. plus then she's know my phone number cause it was her OLD number and i hint something like that she could call her old number whenever she wants....then eventually we'd probably have kids together or something.

April 13, 2007

oh hey guys, adam here.

i'm not exactly sure how to explain myself here. between the months of december and february i was borderline obsessed with blogging. then, something clicked in my brain which apparently shorted out whatever lobe stimulates blogging motivation...either the temporal or the frontal lobes probably. anyways. i'd like to apologize to all the dedicated readers i had and i'd like to hope it doesnt happen again. maybe i'll just claim i gave it up for lent or something.

what has happened in the last month? eh. i guess i had a birthday, thats something neat.

oh man, but more importantly - baseball has resumed. i dont care what everyone who faithfully watched the '85 world series has to say - go cardinals. go royals. period. if they meet each other in the series i dont know what i'll do. actually i'd probably root for the royals now that the cards have won a championship in my lifetime. can you imagine that series?! the two greatest players in the game today square off - albert pujols/john buck?! wow. serious intensity. thats just good clean fun there - except be wary albert, j-buck's been known to deck latinos in the dugout (see runelvys hernandez 09/12/06).

john buck is, and forever will be, my favorite.

oh, i saw "meet the robinsons" twice over easter weekend - once with my friend karlie and then again with my family - it was absolutely terrific. first off, i absolutely love all those pixar-type movies. toy story will always be one of my favorites. secondly, it has some serious plot twists. usually, from what i've noticed, these animated movies tend to have very linear plot lines. one thing happens early in the movie and the entire movie is spent as a journey to fix that thing. example: finding nemo. the movie is about....finding nemo. nemo gets taken. his dad goes to get him from "p. sherman 42 wallaby way, syndey". thats about it. but this one....this one has some crazy "what. are you serious?!? no way." moments very late in the flick. plus it comes in 3D. and thats just cool. i saw it with the fam in 3D. pretty cool. not sure if it was worth the extra dough though. plus the glasses started hurting the bridge of my nose after a while. but those things aside, this movie was great.

it centers around this kid named lewis. in the opening scene you see his mother drop him off as a baby on the front step of an orphanage. he grows up there and has the worst time getting adopted because of his overactive imagination. he wants to invent things and is so passionate about it that he jeopardizes his chances of finding parents (the parents end up thinking he's a freak. plus he doesnt play sports. thats just weird).

he has an idea though - he'll invent a memory scanner so he can remember what his mother looked like and find her. however, on the day of the science fair the memory scanner is sabotaged and falls into the wrong hands - a skinny middle aged dude with a terrific mustache and a mechanical bowler cap for a best friend who happens to be in possession of a stolen time machine. in order to get it back, Lewis must travel into the future after the bowler hat guy to save his invention so he can see his mother again. in the future Lewis meets the robinson family. they're insane, but fun.

Anyways, i can't tell you too much, cause that'll spoil it and i'll be late for work if i do. but this movie is funny, clever, and it has a certain butterfly effect quality to it. anyways. big fan. go see it.

late.

salmonella in the house!

my roommate and i had a funny situation a few days ago. he was looking at an article online and read that ConAgra Foods has been linked as the source of a salmonella outbreak in 39 states. apparently there was a batch of Peter Pan peanut butter, made by ConAgra, that was infected.

now, this made us panic slightly because he and i are both huge peanut butter & honey addicts...and we primarily use Peter Pan. we checked the manufacturer number on the top of the yellow lid and discovered to our horror that each of us had the fated "2111" batch the article warns about and that we had indeed purchased a tub of the infected spread

...and they were each halfway gone.

a terrifying situation? not really. i'll continue to eat the hazardous creamy goodness with no trouble. it is a weird thought though. i could've been seriously ill and died from dysentary or cholera or a snake bite or something.

a dancing evangelical

there is a Christian K-12 school in the kansas city area that doesn't host school dances (to avoid pointing fingers, we'll call it something generic like Kansas City Christian School). it doesn't have a homecoming dance - it has a winter banquet instead. growing up i always thought that was ridiculous, and now that i'm grown - i still do.

in a related story, the NY Times threw out this article a few days ago. i found it to be a perfect blend of relief and humor...much like Preparation H. it is especially comforting for those of us who are hosting a dance party tomorrow night...

hilarious section on page 1: "They are opting to allow formal dances, like swing or ballroom. Of course, it’s unlikely there will be hip-hop or bump-and-grind at J.B.U. They will not be krumping."

give it a read.

oh mandy.

my roommates, being the observant and understanding roommates that they are, are fully aware of my love for this woman. usually i would say that celebrity crushes are ridiculous. i will concede, however, that they're perfectly alright if they are my celebrity crush. i would in no way make fun of anyone who owned and watched Chasing Liberty alone from time to time, nor would you i hope. perfectly normal and totally understandable.

my roommate, john, agreeing with me in this outlook, did not hesitate to share with me this article.

it is a rather bittersweet article for me to be honest. depression sucks. especially when it is mandy moore, and being the caring and loving individual i am i wish i could do something about it. i would gladly be there to wipe away mandy's tears if need be. however, the mix-match of emotions ensues here when i realize that my motivation for tear-wiping is undoubtedly ignited due to a heightened level of excitement seeing that she is single. now is the moment when i come in and sweep her off her feet in her ever-so-vulnerable state. yes. how adorable.

and the day is mine.

and mandy, if you happen to be reading this, i can understand if you're ultra-creeped out. i would be too. granted you're probably used to this sort of thing. you undoubtedly have some serious fan admiration that i undoubtedly lack largely due to four key facts:
1. you're a famous actress.
2. you're a famous musician.
3. you're gorgeous (see photo).
4. and i am none of those things.

ps. feel free to leave your number. i'm very single.
